Bikers for Veterans recently visited Camp Alma and delivered Christmas packages for all of the veteran residents. Because of your support, we were able to present each resident with a gift bag containing a patriotic themed Christmas card, a challenge coin (thanking them for their service), a Visa gift card, and some tasty Christmas candy. While there, Jack Gartley (director of operations) led a tour of their facility and gave a presentation about the program and their mission. THE VETERANS LEGACY- HONORING THE JOURNEY Veterans Legacy’s mission is to provide a safe place in a rural setting for veterans encountering homelessness, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse disorders to live and work as they begin the journey back to successfully reintegrate into the community. Camp Alma will serve as the residential facility treatment site. Coordinating a variety of therapeutic interventions to best meet the needs of the individual is a hallmark of our program. Therapeutic horticulture will be a primary emphasis in tandem with core mental health, addiction and complimentary therapies. CHANGE FOR THE BETTER CREATING A SPACE TO HEAL The rural forest location of Camp Alma, in the Coast Range, is the foundation within the therapeutic framework that Veterans Legacy will be creating. Veterans Legacy’s program provides a safe, secure place in a rural setting for the veteran residents to live, develop relationships with peers, and work in a supportive community while continuing treatment A HEALING ENVIRONMENT RESTORING THE INDIVIDUALPart of creating a safe and healing environment is to have daily scheduled tasks while allowing time for formal counseling and personal time for reflection. A balance of work and recreation will be strived for, as well as various vocational opportunities. The foremost goal of Camp Alma is to create a treatment regimen that fully utilizes all available resources to allow the veteran choices in creating his own personal curriculum for maximum empowerment. Donating and helping our veterans as they return to civilian life is essential for their future success. They served us and we are grateful.
